BELGRADE, August 7. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to Belgrade will put Serbia’s relations with Russia at risk, "Serbia’s We – Power of the People" opposition parliamentary group said in a statement.

"Zelensky’s visit deals yet another blow to Serbia’s relations with Russia. We would like to recall that Zelensky’s office term expired on May 20, 2024 and he has been an illegal and illegitimate president of Ukraine ever since, and any talks or agreements with him serve no purpose other than harming Serbian-Russian relations. And this is happening amid a major energy crisis stemming from the unprecedented drought, which lowered the water level in the Danube by half," the statement says.

The group also stressed that Serbia "largely depends" on cheap Russian gas but no long-term deal on its supplies has been signed so far due to the government’s policy. "There is no need in saying that Kosovo and Metohija’s status also depends on Russia which enjoys the right to veto in the UN Security Council," it noted.

Zelensky arrived in Belgrade on Friday. He was welcomed at the airport by Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic. He is expected to meet with Serbian President Aleksanadar Vucic on August 8.
